Sussex Police has issued a statement following a multi-agency repsonse to reports of an unexploded bomb in Gatwick today (Sunday, March 28)

Charlwood Road, Crawley, was closed off while officers investigated and found the item was not a bomb.

Emergency services respond to bomb scare near GatwickA spokesman for Sussex Police said: "At 4.20pm on Sunday (28 March), police responded to a report of an unexploded device found by a resident while gardening in Charlwood Road, Crawley.

"A safety cordon was put in place as a precaution whilst Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended.

"The item was checked and found not to be an explosive device. Roads reopened at 7.45pm.

"The airport remained open throughout."
