Nature campaigner dies aged 95
Stanley Allen, who was known for his efforts to preserve Widewater lagoon and limit development along the Adur riverbank, died iin Worthing Hospital on December 23.
A resident of Shoreham for 30 years, Mr Allen was actively involved in a number of nature and conservation groups, including Shoreham District Ornithological Society, Sussex Downsmen and the Campaign to Protect Rural England.

Hide AdA retired solicitor, Mr Allen had also been chief executive of Sussex County Cricket Club, chairman of the BBC South Advisory Council, and was one of the first cricket commentators on Radio Brighton, where he worked with a young Des Lynam.
The funeral will be held at St Mary’s Church, Shoreham, on Monday, January 6, at 9.45am. The family has requested no flowers and no black.
