A cafe in Eastbourne town centre has closed because of 'ever-raising bills and staff shortages', a notice in its window says.

A sign was spotted in the window of Roots in Grove Road on Saturday, February 4, which said: “Roots are now closed due to ever raising bills and staff shortages, we would like to thank all our regular and loyal customers.”

On the cafe’s website it says: “Roots is an urban farmshop, a deli, a greengrocer and a coffee shop all rolled into one.

“We freshly prepare all of our breakfasts, lunches and sandwiches using locally sourced produce where possible.

“Our fresh salad and vegetables are locally grown and pesticide free, traditionally grown in season. All of our delicious cakes and tray bakes are handmade on the premises. We also use a local butcher to supply our meat on a daily basis.”
